The Booking Process: A Closer Look

If you are a fan of crime dramas on t.v. or even movies you may be familiar with the booking process.  However do you actually know the components that make up the booking process?  Unlike the popular t.v. and cinema versions the booking process can be tedious and time consuming.  In today’s post we’re going to dive in deeper to see what makes up the booking process and what you can expect if you or a loved one has been arrested.

The Booking Process: A Closer Look

The booking process begins after a defendant is arrested.  They are then taken to the local jail or court house to begin the process.  Once there the defendant will give the person conducting the process their basic information.  This includes their name, birthdate and physical description including eye/hair color.  Typically personal items such as cell phones, wallets or purses that were on the defendant are confiscated and securely locked away until they are released.

Background Information

During the booking process the person conducting the process will copy the defendants fingerprints.  These are run through a national database where they are checked to see if they are related to any crimes or offenses.  Just like their fingerprints the defendants basic information is also run through a similar database.  At some point during this time the defendants mugshots are taken as well.
